Ineos Britannia s’est qualifiée pour la finale de la Coupe Louis-Vuitton.
Les marins du défi American Magic ont tenu bon mercredi à Barcelone, remportant deux nouvelles régates lors demi-finales de la Coupe Louis-Vuitton face à Luna Rossa, contrairement aux Suisses d’Alinghi éliminés par Ineos Britannia, qualifié pour la finale.
Mené 4-1 et dos au mur au début de cette nouvelle journée d’affrontements, le barreur Tom Slingsby a mené ses hommes à la victoire à deux reprises face aux Italiens, dans des conditions de vent délicates. Plus manoeuvrants et rapides dans la première manche, les Américains ont ensuite su profiter d’une casse de l’AC75 de Luna Rossa, au niveau du rail faisant bouger la grand-voile, lors du deuxième match.
Jeudi, les deux équipes ont de nouveau rendez-vous à partir de 14h00 sur le plan d’eau pour les deux dernières manches de cette demi-finale — une seule régate aura lieu en cas de succès des Italiens dès le premier affrontement –. Le vainqueur affrontera Ineos Britannia en finale de la Coupe Louis-Vuitton à partir du 26 septembre. Mercredi, les Britanniques ont pris le dernier point qui leur manquait face aux Suisses d’Alinghi (5-2), après avoir pourtant perdu le premier duel de la journée.
«On est content parce que c’était une journée difficile (…) On est soulagé de passer car dans ce genre de compétition, tout peut arriver», a estimé le skipper britannique Ben Ainslie au micro des organisateurs. Le vainqueur de la finale de la Coupe Louis-Vuitton deviendra le challenger de Team New-Zealand, double tenant du titre, lors de la 37e édition de la Coupe de l’America en octobre.
