Il y a eu un avant et un après Jérémy Doku. Avec Jack Grealish, titulaire ce samedi après-midi, Manchester City a eu du mal à créer des différences. Avec le Belge, qui a remplacé le Britannique peu après l’heure de jeu (66e), les Citizens ont été plus mordants, plus incisifs et se sont (logiquement) procuré plus de situations franches. Et c’est sans surprise que la solution est venue de lui. À la 84e minute de jeu, l’ex-Rennais a astucieusement trouvé Kevin De Bruyne dans la surface de réparation…qui a pu, ensuite, offrir une passe décisive à Bernardo Silva. Une entrée décisive !

Titularisé à la pointe de l’attaque de Chelsea, Nicolas Jackson s’est procuré plusieurs occasions franches durant le match. Mais il a parfois tergiversé, comme à la demi-heure de jeu, où il n’a pas osé prendre sa chance alors qu’il était seul face à Stefan Ortega. Il a aussi manqué de réalisme à plusieurs reprises, comme à la 49e minute de jeu, où il n’a pas réussi à faire trembler les filets malgré une double occasion incroyable. C’est dommage pour les Blues parce qu’ils ont eu les situations pour prendre l’avantage.
Cole Palmer (trop) discret
Positionné derrière Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer n’a pas réalisé un mauvais match en soi. Mais au vu de son statut – co-meilleur buteur de Premier League avec Erling Haaland – et de son importance dans le jeu de Chelsea, on l’attendait un peu plus. Ou du moins, on espérait le voir beaucoup plus tranchant. En effet, à part un bel enchaînement crochet-frappe peu avant la pause (37e) et une magnifique ouverture pour Moses Caicedo en deuxième mi-temps, le Britannique n’a pas beaucoup fait de différences. Et pour se qualifier en finale, les Blues avaient absolument besoin qu’il en fasse davantage.
